I am an academic and an ordained Anglican Priest.  Since 2007 I have been Professor of Religions and Education within the Religions and Education Research Unit,University of Warwick and more recently I have taken over as Director of the Unit (WRERU).  The Unit is concerned to promote research within the public and social significance of religions and theologies, as well as within religious education.  

Previously I have held the D J James Chair of Pastoral Theology in the University of Wales, Lampeter (1992-1999). Subsequently I was Professor of Practical Theology and Director of the Welsh National Centre for Religious Education at Bangor University (1999-2007).

I obtained my PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1976. My published works have been recognised by three higher doctorates: ScD from Cambridge in 1997, DD from Oxford in 2001 and DLitt from University of Wales, Bangor in 2007.  

Currently I hold visiting positions at York St John University in England and at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.  I am Honorary Distinguished Canon at Manchester Cathedral in England.
